These Strange Problems Mean You Have Pests

Posted on: 23 November 2022

If you see cockroaches, earwigs, termites, or other notable pests around your home, then of course you know it's a good idea to call a pest control company. But these insects, and also other insects, can be pretty sneaky. Sometimes, you don't see the bugs themselves until your home is nearly overrun by them. You don't want this to be the stage at which you finally call a pest control company! Instead, keep an eye out for these signs, which may seem strange at first -- but actually mean you have bugs around.

Mud Trails Up Your Walls

Have you ever seen what looks like little, brown trails leading up your baseboards or lower walls? If you take a damp cloth to these trails, you'll find they will wipe away as they are made from mud. You may be perplexed as to how they got there. Well, the answer is "termites." The mud trails may appear on the inside or outside of your home, and they are one of the key signs of subterranean termites. A pest control company can come put down some baits, inject your wood, or both. Act promptly, and you should be able to get rid of the termites before they cause serious structural damage.

Flaky, White Material

If you see flaky, white material under windows or at the base of doors, these are likely the shed wings of cockroaches. The bugs lose their wings at a certain life stage, and since they all do it at the same time, the leaves fall into a pile. Roaches are good at hiding, but if you see the wings, you know they are there. A pest control company can put out baits, spray areas where their nests may be, and also spread a perimeter of insecticides around the outside of your home to keep additional cockroaches from entering.

Clicking Sounds

Is there a clock in your wall? Is one of the neighbors using their hammer? More than likely, if you are hearing strange clicking or tapping noises during the night, this is likely caused by termites. The sound you're hearing is them chewing on wood. If you're hearing these sounds, termites have already found their way into your actual home. So, you need to call a pest control company ASAP and really rely on them to be thorough.

If you notice any of the signs above, you don't have ghosts — you have bugs. Call a pest control company, not the ghostbusters. For more information, contact a pest control company near you.
