Walking into the kitchen to see a line of ants, or to see a rat can really be startling. Having a problem with pests can start slow, but can escalate very quickly. You may only see a few ants at first and then out of nowhere you have a terrible infestation of ants. The same can go for a rodent, you may see a few fecal pellets then days later, you may have a major problem. The thing with pest control, is that much of it is prevention, and only a little of the game is getting rid of the pest once they are in the home. Here are a few different ways that you can try to keep pests out of your home.
Cleanliness
The only reason that a pest will be attracted to your home is because they find a food source. Insects and rodents have an uncanny ability to find the bag of cereal that broke in your cupboard. If they find a food source they are going to come into the home. However, if the home is always kept very neat and clean then they will have a very hard time finding a food source and will therefore not be attracted to your home.
Foundation
The pests are going to need a way into your home. Most of the time the pests are going to try to enter your home through cracks in your foundation. A very good method of preventative pest control is sealing up your foundation. You will want to cut all shrubs back from the home a few feet, and then dig down a few feet. You will want to do this all the way around the home. Look for any major cracks or chips in the foundation. Make sure that you fill the major cracks with mortar. When all he major cracks are filled, use a good sealant on the entire foundation of your home. This will seal up your foundation.
Spray
There are a few different types of spray that you can use that will effectively keep bugs away, you can spray a eco friendly pest spray. Or you can also sprinkle diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of your home. The diatomaceous earth is a great way to fight off any pest with an exoskeleton because it will pierce the exoskeleton and cause them to dehydrate. There are many different sprays and pest control powders that you can put down to prevent pests from entering your home.
